TEEN
LIVING PROGRAMS |
Teen Living Programs (TLP) provides shelter, healthcare, educational and employment
opportunities, and a sense of community for homeless and run away teens. TLP is located
in Belfort House, an 8-flat on Chicago's south side, which housed 12 beds but was
recently rezoned to house 36 beds. Supporting the Spirit Foundation (SSF) designers,
working in conjunction with architect Tony Perry and his team from the award-winning firm
of Orren Pickell, will develop a well-considered expansion plan and create a less
institutional, more home-like environment for the teens and staff living there.
These design programs include:
- Renovation of existing areas to make them safer, more attractive, and functional.
- Installation of a fully-equipped kitchen, graciously donated by Wood-Mode and KitchenAid.
- Acquisition of appropriate and stylish furnishings for bedrooms and common areas.
SSF thanks the Illinois Facilities Fund staff for recommending this worthy
organization, and the Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Interior
Designers for their assistance in recruiting designers for this undertaking.
Watch this website for updates on this exciting project's progress! You will see
TLP's vision fulfilled... "to have the opportunity that so few social services
programs even contemplate: the chance to creatively utilize our physical space in a
way that best facilitates the accomplishment of our clinical goals."
